Travel Logistics for the 2026 Conference in Sassari Every AAIS conference venue is unique and presents its own set of opportunities and challenges, and this is true of Sassari as well. Sardinia is beautiful, but it’s also an island, so we wanted to offer the membership some suggestions about travel planning to ensure we all have the best possible experience. We will have a dedicated web page for the conference with this same information (and more details), but we know that some of you will want to start planning now.
Travel Sardinia has three main airports, the largest of which is Cagliari Elmas (CAG) in the south, and two smaller airports in the north (where our conference is): Olbia (OLB) and Alghero (AHO). Alghero is much closer to Sassari than Olbia, however, so travelers should be sure to fly into AHO when possible. Travelers should also be aware that June 2 is the Festa della Repubblica, so train and bus service is likely to be reduced, with some reductions continuing into June 3.
Flying from North America, Delta offers nonstop service between JFK and Olbia once a day; otherwise, you will probably be connecting through a European city (American Airlines connects to British Airways in Heathrow, Delta connects to KLM in Amsterdam, and so on), and most of these fly to all three Sardinian airports.
Accommodations Accommodations in Sassari are affordable: hence there is no conference rate or specific conference hotel. Simple and clean, all have air conditioning and many include breakfast. Early June is the start of the tourist season, however, so we recommend conference travelers secure their accommodations early. Our conference venue is very centrally located and lots of hotels are within easy reach, including:
There are also a number of bed & breakfasts, including:
We will have additional information on attractions and dining, as well as conference events, the banquet, and more, in the coming weeks.
