Guided Tour in Naples

Caravaggio's The Seven Works of Mercy & Spaccanapoli street

Alessandro Giardino, Chair & Associate Professor at St. Lawrence University and leading expert on Caravaggio's cultural circles and seventeenth-century Naples will lead a guided visit to Caravaggio's painting The Seven Works of Mercy in Naples (Pio Monte della Misericordia). Giardino will shed light on past and current scholarship on Caravaggio's ultimate Neapolitan masterpiece and will recount the Neapolitan life of the cursed artist, by focusing on his participation to Tommaso Campanella and Giambattista Manso's cultural circles. For those interested and free of luggage, the visit will be followed by a 30 minutes guided tour of the famous Spaccanapoli street. This second part of the tour will end around 3.30 pm at the Literary Café Intra-Moenia (Piazza Bellini/Dante Metro Station)

TICKETS & RESERVATIONS:
Ticket for Pio Monte della Misericordia : 8 euros
Max: 12 participants / max 10 small suitcases or 8 medium-size suitcases.
Departure from Sorrento Train Station at 11.45 (am). Please arrive 10-15 minutes before departure. We will have 20 minutes for a quick snack once Naples

To reserve a spot in the tour, please write to Dr. Giardino directly and specify if you will need to deposit your suitcase (email can be found in the member's Directory on this website > Login into Member Center > Go to Member Directory > Enter "Giardino" > Click on the name to open the email address).
Please do not write to AAIS about this tour which is organized independently.

NOTES:
*** participants will have to buy their own tickets for train from Sorrento and subway in Naples (1 metro stop - Duomo Metro Station).
*** For those coming from Naples or arriving on their own, the Caravaggio visit will start at 1.50 pm at Pio Monte della Misericordia.
*** Participants will be able to leave their luggage for free at a secured deposit close to Pio Monte della Misericordia until 2.30 pm. Please confirm number of suitcases and size at the time of registration.
