2021 CONFERENCE GUIDELINES


Timeline for Accepting Proposals:

  • December 15, 2020: Call for submissions and roundtables due. Completed sessions and roundtables may also be sent at this time.
  • January 31, 2021: Proposals due to Session and Roundtable Organizers with title, brief abstract (150-200 words), and short bio.
  • February 15, 2021: All completed sessions and roundtables due.
  • March 15, 2021: All participants must be current AAIS members.
  • May 9, 2021: Recorded presentation due.

Please use the following format for each proposed session or roundtable (completed or in progress):

TITLE OF SESSION OF ROUNDTABLE (IN CAPS)

-100-word maximum description of session or roundtable (descriptions over 100 words will be returned for editing)

-Organizer, Institutional affiliation, Email address

-Chair (if different from Organizer): Name, Affiliation

-Name, Affiliation, Title of presentation in quotation marks for each session participant

-Name, Affiliation for each roundtable participant

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • In order to organize a session or roundtable, you must be a member in good standing of the AAIS. Non-members may not organize sessions. Membership renewal is available here. 
  • Sessions and roundtables with fewer than three speakers or participants will not be accepted.
  • In proposing sessions and roundtables, please include no more than two individuals from any single institution.
  • NEW: This year we are introducing an “early scholar” day for pre-prospectus graduate students, in conjunction with the mentorship initiative. Graduate students at all stages of study are welcome to organize and present at sessions and roundtables designated as “early scholar.” When proposing a session or roundtable, please follow the guideline outlined above, and add the words EARLY SCHOLAR following the title of session or roundtable.
  • For all other panels, graduate students may submit proposals ONLY if they are ABD and have already embarked on the writing of their dissertations. They are asked to submit to session and roundtable organizers a brief statement from their advisor affirming their ABD status. Graduate students should view their AAIS papers as potential “job talks” and should be sure that their performance reflects their highest level of academic and professional achievement.
  • All participants in a session or roundtable must be AAIS members by March 15, 2021. Sessions including non-members will not be included in the program.
  • Requests for Caucus meetings must be received by the Conference Organizer by the established deadline. Please consult the conference website.
  • NB: A delegate may read no more than one paper, chair a session, and participate in one roundtable.
